Victor Wembanyama has already established himself as one of, if not the best, shot blockers in the NBA. However, aggressive going for blocks can lead to an occasional embarrassing highlight.
Late in the second quarter of the San Antonio Spurs matchup with the Miami Heat, Wembanyama was on the end result of a poster dunk from Heat center Bam Adebayo. Given the nature of the slam, the highlight made the rounds on social media on Thursday.
After the game, Wembanyama talked about his mentality in regards to getting dunked on.
“Getting dunked on is part of the game, Wembanyama said. “Until I'm getting dunked on more than I block shots, I'm going to keep going. But none of us going to live to this day,”
Wembanyama has gotten off to a historic start to this season. He is averaging 30.2 points, 14.6 rebounds and 4.8 blocks per game to help push the Spurs to a fast 5-0 record to begin the year. This is the first time in franchise history that the Spurs are 5-0.
As Wembanyama continues to rise amongst the top ranks of NBA players, his ascension has helped put the Spurs back on most fans’ radar. San Antonio hasn’t reached the playoffs since 2019, but they have a real chance to snap that streak in 2026 with the way their superstar big man is performing right now.
