The fate of the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Playoffs are pretty much sealed. Coach Mitch Johnson will have to lead his squad against the seventh-seed that comes out of the NBA Play-In Tournament. More than that, they also have the opportunity to prove a point against the Oklahoma City Thunder if they reach the Western Conference Finals. For now, it looks like there is no one more excited than Victor Wembanyama.
Wembanyama outlines Spurs' NBA Playoffs excitement
The Spurs now officially hold the second seed in the NBA Playoffs and can no longer go any higher or lower. Their postseason will obviously start on a later date as they await the victors of the NBA Play-In Tournament. However, Victor Wembanyama cannot seem to wait much longer to start their campaign to the Larry O'Brien trophy. He got real on what playing in the NBA Playoffs would mean for him, via Jared Weiss of The Athletic.
"It’s becoming more real, more and more real, that we are actually going to play in the playoffs. I’m excited to play in high-stakes games again. … Elimination games and such always reveal things," the Spurs superstar declared.
Notably, this is the first time that Wembanyama will be playing in the NBA Playoffs after he got drafted. The Spurs only managed to get 34 wins during the 2024-25 season which was only good for the 13th seed in the West. In the year he was selected first overall, the Spurs have clearly not figured out who they were yet which led to them only finishing as the 14th seed with a horrendous record of only 22 wins and 60 losses.
It's a big year for the Spurs. This will be their first time since 2022 to participate in the postseason. More than that, it will be their first appearance in the NBA Playoffs since 2019. Back then, DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge were the leaders of the team, now Wembanyama holds the keys to their success.
