Victor Wembanyama, from halfcourt shot to defensive dominance, pulls Spurs back vs. Thunder

1 hour ago 3

A legend can only be written one chapter at a time.

For Victor Wembanyama to lead the San Antonio Spurs to glory, he first had to lead them back from a deficit against the defending NBA champs.

How about a halfcourt shot, absurd dunks and defensive dominance?

Welcome to the Legend of Wemby, still in progress.

The Oklahoma City Thunder don't get blown out.

They don't get held to fewer than 90 points.

They don't look this lost.

But on Sunday night, that's exactly what happened.

If anything, Wembanyama just summed it all up with his shot from halfcourt to beat the halftime buzzer. It didn't end up mattering all that much in the context of the game. It was just the prime example of him being unlike any other player on the planet.

He finished with 33 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals -- and as usual, he changed the entire geometry of the court as players didn't even think about driving all the way to the basket when he was in there.

The Spurs needed this from Wembanyama after dropping their first home game of this series. But by winning Game 4 and evening it up at 2-2, they're alive.

And really, they're more than alive. They've got Wemby. His legend is being written. And with that narrative in the works, the Spurs don't have a limit.
