Observations from Giants training camp on Monday.
Austin powers
WR Malachi Fields continues to make a big play a day. This time, the rookie’s highlight was a sideline catch over Paulson Adebo in 7-on-7, though he also was effective on slants. Dalen Cambre added an acrobatic catch where he ripped it away from the defense. Calvin Austin is emerging as a major security blanket for all the quarterbacks.
Wet & Wild
In a rain-soaked practice, QB Jameis Winston finished 8-of-21, missing an easy fourth-and-short throw and dodging a goal-line interception when CB Deonte Banks dropped a gimme. Part of the value of having a veteran quarterback is supposed to be getting good evaluations of the other second-teamers.

Under coordinator Dennard Wilson, the defense does 10 post-practice push-ups for every penalty. That made for 40 on Monday, though veteran DT D.J. Reader suggested they should take 10 off the top for every takeaway – and Jevon Holland and Micah McFadden had interceptions.
Injury report
In the middle of an active practice that showed he likes contact, CB Colton Hood subbed out with what looked like a stinger but came back after he was looked at by trainers and committed a fourth-down holding.
