USMNT’s Alex Freeman building on winning advice from Super Bowl champion dad

PHILADELPHIA — Over the summer, when he was playing his first major competition for the U.S. men’s national team, Alex Freeman often turned to his father for advice and support.

Antonio Freeman cannot tell his son much about the technical side of soccer.

But, as an NFL receiver of nine seasons and part of the Packers’ Super Bowl 1997 triumph, he does know some things that might be useful for his 21-year-old son as Alex tries to work his way onto Mauricio Pochettino’s roster for next summer’s World Cup.

“Those conversations with him, maybe it’s not about soccer or positioning,” Freeman told The Post after the USMNT trained Wednesday ahead of a friendly against Paraguay on Saturday. “It’s also about, ‘Where’s your head at? How are you feeling? Have faith in yourself, be able to have confidence. You’re here because you were picked to be here, so just go and be you.’ ”
