Just two more wins stand in the way of Team USA winning its fifth-straight gold medal at the FIBA Women's World Cup.
On Saturday afternoon, the star-studded American squad, led by Napheesa Collier and Rhyne Howard their last time out in a dominant win over Hungary, will match up against Spain in the tournament's semifinals. For the U.S., which has coasted to wins over China, Czechia and Hungary, Spain figures to be a bit of a taller task in order to reach the gold-medal matchup.
The Spanish squad features a collection of WNBA talent, including Storm center Awa Fam, the No. 3 pick who is averaging 10.3 points and 5.7 rebounds as a rookie so far this WNBA season. While Spain did have a questionable loss to Mali earlier in the FIBA Women's World Cup, the team is coming off a blowout victory over Australia and is within reach of a fourth medal in the past five World Cups.
A trip to the final game of the international tournament is on the line Saturday afternoon. Will the United States or Spain advance?
