After failing to win the SheBelieves Cup on home soil earlier this year, the United States women look for redemption as they contest the first of two friendlies against Brazil at SoFi Stadium in California on Saturday.
Defeat to Japan by a 2-1 score in the final match of the competition saw the Asian side lift the trophy while the U.S. failed to win its own tournament for the first time in the last six tries. It was far from a devastating blow, but it certainly proved embarrassing, especially in the wake of a gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics saw the USWNT return to the top of the world rankings.
The U.S. are still missing a few key stars, such as Naomi Girma, Sophia Smith, and Mallory Swanson, while Emma Hayes must also effort to build the squad towards the next World Cup cycle.
Brazil, meanwhile, are also in transition as they recover from the retirement of a host of key squad members last summer. The South American side topped Australia in a pair of friendlies last November, but slipped to eighth in the world rankings after they were not active in the February international break.

USWNT vs. Brazil live updates, highlights from first friendly
2 hours to kickoff: Naomi Girma appears close to recovery from her muscle injury that ended her Chelsea debut early. While this international break comes too soon for her to appear, the world's most expensive female player was on hand to celebrate the club's 3-0 victory over Manchester City in league play with her new teammates.

USWNT vs. Brazil lineups, team news
The USWNT is still without star defender Naomi Girma who limped off just 59 minutes into her early-March debut for Chelsea. She is considered "week-to-week" by Chelsea boss Sophia Bompastor but has yet to return. Also absent is fellow defender Tierna Davidson who was forced to withdraw from the squad after suffering an ACL tear for the second time in her career.
The race for the starting goalkeeper job in the wake of Alyssa Naeher's retirement continues, and it's thought likely that Man United starter Phallon Tullis-Joyce will get a shot in one of these two games, while Jane Campbell could be called upon as well.
Rose Lavelle remains absent as she recovers from ankle surgery, and the same is true for Sophia Smith. Returning for the United States up front is Trinity Rodman, while Mallory Swanson is still out of the picture for "personal reasons."
