USA Hockey unveils invitees for 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase

USA Hockey has invited 47 players to participate in the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase, which will serve as an evaluation for athletes seeking to make their respective national teams for the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship. 

The 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase is slated for July 26-Aug. 1 at WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ontario and will include teams from Canada, Finland and Sweden. Of the 47 player, five are goaltenders, 16 are defensemen and the remaining 26 are forwards. The week-long World Junior Summer Showcase will include 10 international games. The 47 U.S. players will first be split into two teams — Team Blue and Team White, with each team playing games on July 26 and 27. Beginning on July 29 against Sweden, a consolidated Team USA roster will then play the remaining three contests of the event.

Players representing a total of 17 different states have been invited to the World Junior Summer Showcase.

The group includes nine first-round NHL Draft selections, including Texas native J.P. Hurlbert who was just selected at No. 23 overall by the Detroit Red Wings. In total, 42 of the 48 invited players have been drafted by NHL teams.

USA Hockey sets roster for 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase

The 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship will be held Dec. 26, 2026, through Jan. 5, 2027, in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta.

In addition, the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase follows the developmental camps hosted by most NHL teams. Hurlbert is currently attending the Red Wings Development Camp and is also coming off time with the U.S. National Team Development Program.

Three members of the 2026 U.S. National Junior Team are expected to attend the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase — forward Will Horcoff, goaltender Brady Knowling and defenseman Chase Reid.

The General Manager of the U.S. National Junior Team will be John Vanbiesbrouck for the ninth consecutive year, with Adam Nightingale serving as Head Coach.

With a total of 20 different NHL teams being representing among the 47 invited players, it is also worth mentioning that the U.S. has won two gold medals in the last three World Juniors and has medaled in eight of the last 11 IIHF World Junior Championships.
