Flames, Maple Leafs long-time standout retires from NHL after 15 seasons

T.J. Brodie played his first 10 NHL seasons for the Calgary Flames.

From there, he spent four seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs and one with the Chicago Blackhawks.

After not playing in the 2025-26 season, Brodie has officially hung up his skates.

He's retiring from the NHL.

A quality defenseman, Brodie is 36 years old at the time of his retirement.

He finished his career with 962 NHL games that included 58 goals and 300 assists.

He was originally a fourth-round pick by the Flames in the 2008 NHL Draft after playing junior hockey with the Barrie Colts and Saginaw Spirit.

Brodie took a few seasons to fully break through, but by the mid '10s, he was a constant presence for Calgary.

Brodie's best seasons came in 2014-15 and 2015-16, when he went for 41 and then 45 points.

He joined Toronto for the 2020-21 season, and he played 274 games across four seasons with the Leafs.

Brodie then played 54 games in 2024-25 for the Blackhawks.

Now, he moves into the next chapter of his life. Brodie can rest secure knowing he had a great hockey career.
