In February, Trump said on Truth Social that he wouldn’t allow the bridge to open until the US was “fully compensated for everything we have given” Canada, “and also, importantly, Canada treats the United States with the Fairness and Respect that we deserve.”

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney had said the bridge would open this week, but appeared to back away from that on Wednesday. “Look, everyone’s working hard to make sure the bridge is open as soon as possible,” he said. “There’s no big drama. If it takes a little longer, it’ll take a little longer. But this will benefit Canadians, Americans, business, tourists, residents for decades and decades to come.”
