Urban Meyer believes there’s “no chance” Kalen DeBoer will leave Alabama for “malfunctioning organization” like Michigan

Urban Meyer doesn't see Kalen DeBoer leaving Alabama to join Michigan for the 2026 college football season. DeBoer is currently preparing Alabama for the Rose Bowl against Indiana.

"No chance. He is in Alabama. You don’t leave Alabama and go anywhere. No, there is no chance. He got a good infrastructure (in Alabama). You know, Biff Poggi came out and said Michigan is a ‘malfunctioning organization.’ That job is iffy." "It has been a malfunctioning organization over the last five years," said Meyer when asked about the possibility of DeBoer joining the Wolverines.

Urban Meyer knows a thing or two about coaching at the collegiate level. He won national championships with the Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes. Meyer also left his mark with stints at the Bowling Green Falcons and Utah Utes.

Kalen DeBoer made a name for himself at Washington. He led the Huskies to a national championship appearance in the 2023 season, losing to the Michigan Wolverines. He then joined the Alabama Crimson Tide to replace the retired Nick Saban.

Kalen DeBoer had a mixed first season with the Alabama Crimson Tide. He posted a 9-4 record, and Alabama failed to qualify for the inaugural 12-team playoffs. This season has been better, with DeBoer leading his team to the postseason.

DeBoer was linked to the Michigan vacancy when there were doubts about his future in Alabama. However, his comeback win against Indiana has quieted the links.

Furthermore, the Wolverines seem to be interviewing candidates, and no mention has been made of an official approach to DeBoer. Instead, interim head coach Biff Poggi and Kyle Whittingham are the most prominent names linked to the job.
