John Goodman has fans doing a double take.
The “Roseanne” alum, 74, was labeled “unrecognizable” by fans in a new candid photo shared to Instagram Thursday by “Wizards of Waverly Place” star David DeLuise.
“He was my childhood !! ❤️ Legend ! I love that I get to say that to someone 😉 if you know you know,” DeLuise captioned the supermarket selfie, seemingly taken in the breakfast foods aisle.
Fans were equally delighted to see Goodman doing well and expressed their admiration for him in the comments, with one calling the iconic actor “one of my favorite 80s/90s tv dads.”
“I loved him on Roseanne/The Connors. I also loved him as Fred Flintstone on the Flintstones movie,” they continued, with another adding that they’ll “always remember him as the guy from raising Arizona.”
A third person labeled Goodman a “legend,” noting, “There was noting more surreal than growing up associating him with Monsters Inc and then watching The Big Lebowski as an adult. 🤯.”
“I absolutely hate getting older because that means my favorite actors are ALSO getting older,” one netizen lamented.

Goodman’s slimmed-down look is one he’s been working on since 2007 when he quit drinking, hired a personal trainer, cut sugar out of his diet and adopted a Mediterranean-style diet, kicking off a yearslong weight-loss journey.
At his heaviest, the “10 Cloverfield Lane” actor weighed roughly 400 pounds.
“It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your ass and figure out what you’re going to eat next,” he told People in 2010. “I wanted to live life better.”
In a 2016 interview with ABC, Goodman reflected on the “old days” of yo-yoing with his weight, recounting how he’d “take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds and then reward [himself] with a 6-pack of bud or whatever and just go back to [his] old habits.”
“This time I wanted to do it slowly, move, exercise,” he told the outlet at the time. “I’m getting to the age where I can’t afford to sit still anymore.”
Despite admitting to Rolling Stone in 2023 that he’d gotten “lazy” and “let everything go” during the COVID-19 pandemic, Goodman has maintained his 200-pound weight loss over the years.
Since wrapping seven seasons of “The Conners” in 2025, Goodman has continued to stay busy with work and is set to hit the big screen later this year in Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s “Digger.”
The film, which features Tom Cruise like you’ve never seen him before, releases Oct. 2.
