Minkah Fitzpatrick knows that for many people, the only number that matters is the one on his birth certificate.
The new Jets safety was born on Nov. 17, 1996, meaning he is 29 going on 30. That means for many people, Fitzpatrick is one step away from the nursing home.
“It’s ridiculous. It’s crazy,” Fitzpatrick told The Post this week. “Like if you watch football, you know that I’ve been a good player even in the last two years, you know what I’m saying? I just haven’t had a lot of splash. You can say that’s because of the way I was used or whatever. But I was still playing really good football, really high quality football. I was able to do whatever they asked of me at a high level. It just wasn’t super splashy.
“You have people saying that I’ve slowed down where I’ve reached some of my top speeds the last two years. It’s just a number. And I think people don’t like being detailed and thorough because it’s like saying, ‘Oh, he’s 29, he has to be declining.’ ”
