UFC legend Dustin Poirier made headlines for the wrong reasons this weekend as he was arrested for public drunkenness in an airport in Georgia after being kicked off a flight.
The video of Poirier's arrest went viral on social media, and it was equal parts sad and frightening as the former Lightweight fighter was clearly extremely intoxicated and menacing.
While it's unfortunate that a low moment for Poirier became entertainment for millions of people on the internet, perhaps the embarrassment and shame that comes with it will serve as a wake-up call for Poirier, who admittedly struggles with alcohol.
Shortly after the video went viral, Poirier took to social media to admit that he needs help, which he vowed to get.
"I'm at the point where I need some help, walking away from fighting hasn't been easy on me and alcohol isn't the answer," Poirier wrote. "It has ruined my father's life and I will not allow it to ruin mine, my family deserve me at 100%. I'm trying to do everything I can to get my mind right and take the right next steps."
Admitting that you need help is the first, and most important, step, so hopefully Poirier is able to get the help that he needs.
