Phillies might have a problem in a potential trade for Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman

The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to add help to their outfield at this year's MLB trade deadline, with a right-handed slugger their ideal deadline pickup.

But, the Phillies don't only need outfield help; they could also use some pitching talent in both the starting rotation and the bullpen. Specifically regarding the bullpen, a left-handed reliever would be ideal.

So, why not go after Boston Red Sox flame-throwing lefty All-Star reliever Aroldis Chapman? Mark Feinsand of MLB.com linked the Phillies as a suitor for Chapman, but he revealed one big problem that will make a trade difficult to come true.

Phillies named as trade suitor for Aroldis Chapman

"The left-hander is the type of reliever contenders salivate over each July," Feinsand writes. "Though Chapman's strong preference to pitch the ninth means an acquiring team would have to want him in the closer's role rather than making him a setup man alongside an established closer."

Feinsand listed the Phillies as a "potential suitor" for Chapman in a trade despite this huge issue for the left-handed veteran reliever.

With Jhoan Duran firmly the Phillies' closer right now, adding Chapman would not be done to make him the new closer, but rather have an elite set-up man ahead of Duran.

Jose Alvarado and Tanner Banks have struggled as the primary left-handed relievers for the Phillies this season, so adding someone like Chapman would be a huge boost for the bullpen.

The issue, of course, is that the Phillies aren't likely to put Chapman in the closer role, which he prefers. Chapman would be the team's set-up man if they traded for him.

The 2.08 ERA closer would be a great addition to the bullpen, but this problem will likely keep the Phillies from adding Chapman this summer.

Sure, the Phillies could trade for the veteran as there isn't any no-trade clause to worry about. But, even if they trade for him, there's a chance that Chapman won't like his new role on the team.

That's an important aspect of trading a lot for someone, and if this note from Feinsand is a hard line for Chapman, then the Phillies would not be a good landing spot for Chapman, as he'd be Duran's set-up man, not the new closer.
