UCLA Bruins interim football coach Tim Skipper can become the permanent headman in Westwood if he can win two more games after notching three victories in a row against the Penn State Nittany Lions, Michigan State Spartans, and Maryland Terrapins since taking over for the fired DeShaun Foster, according to On3’s Andy Staples.
The Bruins take on the Indiana Hoosiers in Bloomington, Nebraska Cornhuskers and Washington Huskies at home, Ohio State Buckeyes at the “Shoe,” and USC Trojans at LA Memorial the rest of the way.
“I think so,” Staples said when answering an X poster on if two more wins means Skipper stays on at UCLA. “Five means he beats two of Indiana, Nebraska, Ohio State, Washington or USC.”
Staples doesn’t believe the Bruins will be the only program that will consider hiring Skipper after this run at UCLA. The Colorado State Rams, who fired Jay Norvell on Sunday, are a sensible landing spot for Skipper in Staples’s eyes.
Even in that statement, though, Staples still pushed the Bruins as the top potential landing spot for Skipper.
“Colorado State should consider UCLA interim coach Tim Skipper. He knows the league, and you’re seeing right now how well he can motivate a team and manage a staff,” Staples wrote.
“(Of course, if he wins a few against this meat grinder, UCLA should hire him.)”
Amid the current win streak, UCLA’s social media team has been prioritizing clips of interim offensive coordinator Jerry Neuheisel, who’s been on the coaching staff for seven years and played quarterback for the Bruins. Skipper’s been an afterthought, though it’s unclear if that’s by choice.
Either way, Skipper and Neuheisel could both soon have a head coaching job in college football because of UCLA’s revival.
