During the recent Rainbow Six Siege fiasco, game servers were reportedly breached. Community members posted about 2B R6 credits suddenly showing up on their accounts, as well as several ultra-rare cosmetics like the DEV skin and Clover charm. The R6 team addressed this situation in a post, and they later took the game servers as well as their marketplace down to avoid further problems.

However, the latest reports seem to unearth something far worse. On that note, let's take a look at the possible issues Ubisoft might be facing if these unverified details are true.

Ubisoft source codes reportedly leaked after Rainbow Six Siege server breach

A few hours back, an X user @TaisonTV posted about the current situation of the server breach and how it goes deeper than just a Rainbow Six Siege incident. In this tweet, Taison mentions that the ones responsible for the R6 server breach have also exfiltrated the source code of all Ubisoft products released since the 1990s.

If this is true, it suggests that almost 900 gigabytes of data have been illegitimately accessed. Apparently, this entire situation is reported to have stemmed from a MongoDB vulnerability called MongoBleed, which allowed the culprits to mess not only with Rainbow Six Siege but also with Ubisoft products in general.

Are future Ubisoft products in jeopardy?

If the reports of the source code leaks are true, then Ubisoft might have to pay a ransom to keep its upcoming products under wraps. As one of the largest global video game studios, there are various titles and remasters under development. If any news or leaks regarding upcoming games surface, then it could potentially tamper with the production timeline.

🚨 Ubisoft Siege source code allegedly leaked via MongoBleed pivot (90s-present SDKs/networking/BattlEye). Cheaters now have the blueprint—expect aimbots, ESP, godmode, anti-cheat bypasses to explode. More cheaters incoming, ranked ruined. 1/2

As for current Ubisoft products in jeopardy, another X user, @LaveziR6, posted around a similar time as @TaisonTV regarding the potential source code leaks. This post mentions that the malefactors have accessed the "blueprints" of Siege. This could potentially cause a spike in the number of cheaters using aimbots, ESP, godmode, and so on.

What happens now?

Without any official statement from Ubisoft, it is unclear whether these reports and the potential risks that this company might be facing are true. However, a situation like this occurring during the holidays suggests that this entire process was meticulously planned and executed when the support team had its guards down.
