Winning the U.S. Open was the pinnacle achievement of J.J. Spaun's career last year, but it also netted him a massive amount of money.
The U.S. Open purse reached a new record in 2024 and remained the same in 2025, with the most significant payout unsurprisingly going to the winner but plenty still available for the rest of the top 60 finishers.
How much will be paid out at the conclusion of the 2026 U.S. Open? Here's the complete breakdown.

U.S. Open tournament purse 2026
The USGA has set a new record purse for the 2026 U.S. Open, with the total prize money jumping from $21.5 million to $22.5 million.
The U.S. Open purse has skyrocketed in recent years, rising more than $10 million from its value in 2019,. The majority of the winnings do not go toward the winner, but the winner, of course, receives the largest payout. The last two winners, Spaun and Bryson DeChambeau, each brought in $4.3 million.
Here's a look at what this year's U.S. Open winner will make.
How much does the U.S. Open winner get?
The U.S. Open winner will earn $4.5 million, a record prize after Spaun won $4.3 million in 2025. That's exactly 20 percent of the total purse.
At $4.5 million, the U.S. Open is tied with the Masters for the largest prize awarded to the winner among the four majors.
