Toub spoke to reporters on Nov. 20 after Trump complained about the league’s updated kickoff rule. The rule was added for the 2024-25 season to reduce dangerous collisions and encourage more returns.
Toub did not hold back, saying the president “doesn’t even know what he’s looking at.”
“He has no idea what’s going on with the kickoff rule,” Toub said. “Take that for what it’s worth. And I hope he hears it.”Under the new rule, kickoffs still begin at the 35‑yard line. The kicking team lines up at the opponent’s 40‑yard line, while the return team sets up between its 30‑ and 35‑yard lines.
Coverage players cannot move until the ball is caught or hits the ground inside the 20‑yard line. A kick that reaches the end zone in the air now comes out to the 35‑yard line (instead of the 30).
Surprise onside kicks are eliminated and teams must declare them in advance
During his appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Nov. 11, Donald Trump strongly disagreed with the rule, calling it “terrible” and “demeaning.”
“I think it hurts the game and hurts the pageantry,” Trump said. “I’ve told that to [NFL Commissioner] Roger Goodell. And I don’t think it’s any safer. I mean you still have guys crashing into each other.”Trump added that he hopes college football never adopts the same rule.
While the debate continues, Hill faces his own challenges off the field.
At present, Hill is out for the rest of the 2025 NFL season after suffering a devastating knee injury. He tore his ACL and multiple ligaments and dislocated his left knee during the Dolphins’ Monday Night Football win over the New York Jets on Sept. 29.
Tyreek Hill celebrated Travis Kelce's new career milestone
Tyreek Hill showed love to his former teammate on Sunday after Travis Kelce hit a huge milestone for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Right after Kelce scored the touchdown that put him at the top of the team’s all-time regular-season touchdown list, Hill went online and labeled Chiefs TE the:
“GOAT.”Kelce set the record in the Chiefs’ Week 11 game against the Denver Broncos on Nov. 16. He caught a 21-yard touchdown pass, giving him 84 career regular-season touchdowns and moving him past former Chiefs running back Priest Holmes.
Kelce finished the game with nine catches for 91 yards. Even with his big day, the Chiefs lost 22-19 on a walk-off field goal by Denver.
Tyreek Hill’s shout-out came more than three years after he left Kansas City.
The Chiefs traded him to the Miami Dolphins on March 23, 2022, after they could not meet his request for a major contract extension following their huge deal with Patrick Mahomes. Kansas City received five draft picks in the trade.
Tyreek Hill then signed a four-year, $120 million contract with Miami, which made him the highest-paid wide receiver in the league at that time.
