Two-time NBA champion's gut feeling has LeBron James ditching Heat for Warriors

2 hours ago 3

Right now, LeBron James' free agency feels like an open mic night. Everyone from team executives to old teammates is trying to guess where he will go next. But the latest person to speak up actually knows what he’s talking about.

Mario Chalmers played alongside King James for four years with the Miami Heat, so he knows how LeBron thinks better than almost anyone.

When asked where the 41-year-old will sign, Chalmers didn't hide the conflict. "I want to say Miami, but I have a gut feeling that it might be Golden State," he said, adding he still sees two to three more productive years left in James' tank.

Chalmers' history with the Heat makes things interesting here. He and LeBron won back-to-back championships together in 2012 and 2013 during the "Big Three" era, and Chalmers is still close with the franchise. So, he knows the Miami culture inside and out and still thinks LeBron skips town for California.

One can wonder why James would choose Golden State over a Miami roster that already features Bam Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo. His bond with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green is very real and very recent. They just shared the floor at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and both stars have openly talked about chasing one last run of what Steve Kerr calls "meaningful basketball."

Plus, Green reportedly opted out of his $27.7 million contract this offseason, which clears up the exact cap flexibility the Warriors need to make LeBron a serious offer. Moreover, James' family is deeply rooted in Los Angeles, and a flight to the Bay Area is a much shorter commute than a flight to South Beach.

However, he hasn’t given a timeline, and Rich Paul made it clear that the Heat, Cavs, Timberwolves, 76ers, and Nuggets are all still very much in the mix.
