Twins replace ex-Braves, Orioles catcher with 25 HR first baseman

The Minnesota Twins have made a notable roster adjustment for the final week of the regular season. 

According to a team announcement, catcher Alex Jackson was designated for assignment on Monday. 

Jackson, 30, appeared in 33 games with the Twins and hit .304/.342/.406 with one home run and a .743 OPS in 73 trips to the plate. 

He's played for six teams in his seven seasons in the Majors, including a 36-game stint with the Baltimore Orioles in 2025, hitting five homers with a .763 OPS but an elevated 37% strikeout rate. 

Jackson's spot on the roster goes to 27-year-old first baseman Aaron Sabato, who was recently promoted from Triple-A St. Paul, per by Bobby Nightengale of the Minnesota Star Tribune.

Sabato was Minnesota's first-round pick in 2020, but this is his first promotion to the Majors.

He was a star player at the University of North Carolina and has plenty of power, hitting 25 home runs with a .877 OPS at Triple-A this year. 

For the Twins, they have nothing to lose by allowing Sabato to showcase whether he can handle Major League pitching. 

The AL Central club was eliminated from postseason contention and has its eyes set on the future.
