Twins predicted to re-sign .872 OPS catcher Yankees may want in free agency

The Minnesota Twins may fall just short of earning a postseason berth in 2026. 

Minnesota's front office may have already turned its attention to the offseason, where the main focus could be re-signing its starting catcher. 

In all likelihood, the Twins would love to have Ryan Jeffers back next season.

But he will be a popular free agent for many clubs that may need a backstop, including the New York Yankees. 

The Yankees were heavily linked to Jeffers at the trade deadline, but the Twins opted not to sell. 

Now, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter predicts that Jeffers will re-sign with the AL Central club after the best season of his career at the plate. 

"A reunion with Ryan Jeffers is a real possibility on a short-term deal to bridge the gap to prized 2026 draft pick Vahn Lackey," Reuter wrote. 

This season, Jeffers is hitting .270/.372/.500 with 14 home runs and a .872 OPS in 81 games. He does most of his damage against left-handed pitching.

For the Yankees, having Jeffers platoon with the left-handed-swinging Austin Wells would be a great catching group. 

New York could use more right-handed power, especially if Giancarlo Stanton decides to retire or the Yankees cut ties with the 36-year-old. 

Jeffers could command somewhere in the range of $10-15 million per season, but frankly, money should be no issue for the Yankees, especially without a salary cap.
