Arch Manning has learned to accept the reality of fame at Texas

Arch Manning grew up with something few college athletes ever experience. The pressure to live up to the expectations of his family name.

As the grandson of Archie Manning and nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, Arch entered his time with the Texas Longhorns carrying a torch much heavier than anyone imagined. How does Manning handle the fame that comes will being football royalty? It's not easy for the young quarterback, but he has learned to live with that attention while trying to remain a normal college student.

What makes Arch's situation unusual is that he never appeared to seek fame. His father, Cooper Manning, remembers Arch saying as a young child that he wanted to play quarterback in college but had no interest in becoming famous. Yet his talent and family background made attention unavoidable from the public eye. It's something Marshall Manning, Peyton's son, will have to deal with very soon.

"Arch always said growing up, I can remember him being 6 or 7, 'I want to play quarterback one day in college, but I don't have any interest in being famous,'" Arch's father, Cooper Manning told ESPN.

His grandfather, Archie, agrees, saying Arch wants to be normal. "He doesn't like it," he said. "He'll handle it. He doesn't seek it. He likes low-key ... He's not a limelight guy. He really does like the locker room, likes his teammates."

But can a Manning really be "normal" in the football world? By the time Arch arrived at Texas, he was already one of the most recognizable players in college football. He was also a top NIL earner as well. Manning has gradually learned to accept both realities.

Despite the pressure, Arch stays humble and ordinary. He focuses heavily on the preparation with his teammates and does not appear interested in being flashy. Ultimately, Manning's story is not simply about football talent or a legendary family.

Even though that is what got him to this point. Manning's greatest challenge may be proving that he's different despite his last name. He is determined to create an identity of his own in a pre-existing world that is determined he has to be great at football.

The biggest test of Manning's career comes on Saturday as No. 4 Texas hosts No. 1 Ohio State (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC). This is the point in Arch's career where he can take a step forward and avenge the 14-7 loss to the Buckeyes last season.
