Twins need 'strong' finish to 2026 MLB season from outfield prospect

The Minnesota Twins are not mathematically eliminated from postseason contention. 

But let's just say things aren't looking good. 

With 10 games remaining on their schedule, Minnesota is likely eyeing players who they hope can make an impact on the roster in 2027. 

One of the standout names is outfield prospect Walker Jenkins, who was promoted to the Majors near the end of August. 

The 21-year-old has struggled at the plate despite the hype surrounding him before he received the call to the big leagues. 

ESPN's Bradford Doolittle believes the Twins are hoping for a "strong" finish to the season for Jenkins, who hit 12 home runs with a .939 OPS in 69 games at Triple-A St. Paul. 

"The much-hyped prospect has struggled during his first shot at the big leagues, managing just four hits in his first 45 at-bats and just one in September," Doolittle wrote about Jenkins. "He's 0-for-11 against left-handed pitchers. These are tiny samples, and no great reason for alarm. Still, it would be nice for Jenkins and the Twins if the talented left fielder could end the season on a strong note."

Twins fans shouldn't panic about the lack of production from Jenkins. This is his first test against Major League pitching. 

If his struggles carry into next year, perhaps Minnesota could consider optioning the left-handed hitter back to the minors. 

The Twins don't have much to play for at this point, so letting Jenkins work out his struggles could benefit him down the road.
