Twins get 'F' grade for offseason thanks to owner Tom Pohlad meddling with team

The Minnesota Twins have not had a good year as a franchise. Their 2025 trade deadline sell-off was a tough blow, and things have only gotten worse.

There's very little optimism for 2026, and the Twins don't look to be contending anytime soon with their sell-off. While this offseason didn't feature the major trades of players like Joe Ryan, Byron Buxton, and Pablo Lopez, there weren't many positives this winter.

ESPN's David Schoenfield graded every team's offseason, and he gave the Twins the worst grade of every team with a brutal "F" grade. The main reason for this poor grade was, as Schonefield notes, the meddling of owner Tom Pohlad with the Twins' baseball operations.

Twins' meddling owner, Tom Pohlad, behind 'F' offseason grade

"Words you never want to hear: Tom Pohlad intends to be active in the day-to-day operations of the Twins," Schoenfield writes.

This is a brutal comment from Schoenfield. While the Twins might not be a serious World Series, let alone postseason contender, they could still have a decent offseason for future optimism.

But, this wasn't that. And instead, based on Schoenfield's comments about Pohlad, the owner's meddling makes the future of the Twins look bleak.

Not only is the owner meddling with the day-to-day operations of the Twins, but the payroll is also down $50 million from the 2025 season.

The Twins got cheaper, and the owner is now more involved with the team after fans were initially given hope that new ownership would take over for the team.

While president of baseball operations Derek Falvey was the only key departure for the Twins, their lone additions - Josh Bell and Victor Caratini - combined with the larger involvement of Pohlad, made this the worst offseason in all of MLB for Schoenfield.
