Twins' Byron Buxton trade update is bad news for Phillies, Braves

The Minnesota Twins are very likely to sell once again this summer, but they could still sneak into a Wild Card spot with a weak American League Wild Card race.

But, even if they do wind up as sellers, there will be a lot of uncertainty with Byron Buxton. After a fire sale last season, which featured Jhoan Duran, Griffin Jax, and others being traded, this year's deadline with Buxton and Joe Ryan is very noteworthy.

According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, fortunately for Twins fans, and unfortunately for interested teams, Buxton doesn't seem to be someone who could be dealt this summer by the Twins at all right now.

Byron Buxton trade update for Twins is bad news for Phillies, Braves

"Minnesota Twins center fielder Byron Buxton insists that teams are wasting their time making calls inquiring about his availability," Nightengale writes. "He has a full no-trade clause and loves playing in Minnesota."

While the Twins could, in theory, land a massive haul in a trade for Buxton this season, such a move doesn't look likely at all.

Buxton has full control over a trade thanks to his no-trade clause. Unless he signs off on a trade, the Twins outfielder will be sticking in Minnesota for the foreseeable future.

Based on this update and Buxton's comments from the last year or so, it doesn't appear likely that the superstar outfielder will be on the move.

Both the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves, top contenders in the NL East, would surely love to add Buxton this summer if they could swing a deal.

He's the perfect addition for outfield-needy teams, and as a right-handed hitting outfielder, he's an even more rare commodity.

There's no denying the Twins could land a massive haul for Buxton, but his insistence that he doesn't want a trade and his love for Minnesota are bad news for interested teams like the Phillies and Braves.
