Around Major League Baseball, there's certainly a feeling that the Atlanta Braves are going to do what's needed at this year's trade deadline to ensure they have an opportunity to compete at the highest level.
The Braves are a very good team on paper right now, though it's important to recognize that they still need more to win it all. While the Braves have arguably been the best team in the National League, and all of Major League Baseball in fact, I don't know how they can look in the mirror and say they feel very confident in beating the Los Angeles Dodgers when it matters most.
To fix that, the Braves will have to make some great moves, and one of them would be to go out and make a play for Byron Buxton. However, recently speaking to reporters, the Twins general manager suggested that it won't happen.
“We have no plans to trade Byron,” Jeremy Zoll said Tuesday, per MLB.com. “It’s not something we’re exploring. It’s not something we plan to explore.”
It's unfortunate to hear that Buxton isn't available right now.
However, I don't think it's the craziest thing to suggest that he could be available in the near future. If the Braves are also willing to move on from certain pieces that might not be publicly available at the moment, a trade is always possible in this league, especially if Buxton is on board with it, as he has a no-trade clause.
