With a place in the knockout bracket already in hand, the United States will hope to wrap up Group D play in style as they meet Turkey in their group stage finale from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Friday.
Mauricio Pochettino's side became the first team to guarantee their place atop their 2026 FIFA World Cup group, winning their first two matches against Paraguay and Australia in impressive fashion.
On the other end, Turkey became the first team eliminated from the competition, with their disappointing defeats to the aforementioned opponents seeing them guaranteed to go home. They embarrassed themselves in the final third, letting rip 62 shots through the two matches — the most of any World Cup team through two games — but failing to find the back of the net at all either time.
Because both teams have seen their group stage fates already sealed, this match is competitively meaningless, as nothing will change regardless of the result.
Here is how the teams are predicted to line up, with team news and more regarding today's game.

USA predicted starting 11
(4-2-3-1, right to left): 1. Turner (GK) — 23. Scally, 6. Trusty, 2. McKenzie, 18. Arfsten — 14. Berhalter, 17. Tillman — 21. Weah, 7. Reyna, 26. Zendejas — 9. Pepi.
Injured: Roldan (muscle, doubt)
Suspended: None
On a yellow card: Adams, Richards, Balogun
Mauricio Pochettino has a number of reasons to rest his starters for this final match of Group D play, given there are no competitive stakes riding on the result. First off, Tyler Adams, Chris Richards, and Folarin Balogun are all at risk of a one-game suspension if they pick up another yellow card in this match, before the tallies reset after the group stage.
Unfortunately, Adams' direct backup Cristian Roldan is dealing with a minor muscle injury and may not be available for the match. That could see Sebastian Berhalter dropped deeper into a holding midfield role, one he's not exactly looked comfortable with in the past.
Christian Pulisic is expected to be fully fit for this match after missing the Australia game, but given his recent fitness issue, he's almost surely not going to start, potentially coming off the bench for the final 20-30 minutes or so.
Turkey predicted starting 11
(4-2-3-1, right to left): 23. Cakir (GK) — 18. Muldur, 3. Demiral, 15. Kabak, 20. Kadioglu — 5. Ozcan, 10. Calhanoglu — 8. Guler, 26. Uzun, 11. Yildiz — 21. Yilmaz.
Injured: None.
Suspended: None
Vincenzo Montella is likely to keep most of his starters in the lineup for this game in the hopes of securing a good result and building some good will with fans before heading home.
There are, however, two places he could consider changes. The first is at striker, where Kerem Akturkoglu was invisible in the first half against Paraguay last time out, with just seven touches despite dominating the match. Baris Yilmaz was better coming on in his place for the second half, but Porto attacker Deniz Gul could also be given a run-out.
There's also in the build-up, where Yunus Akgun was poor on the right wing. Can Uzun was bright off the bench against Paraguay in his place, and he could come into the starting lineup at the No. 10 which would move Arda Guler slightly wider and maybe keep the Real Madrid star from falling victim to the litany of long-range pot-shots he took in the last two games.
USA vs. Turkey predictions, betting odds
The United States have bigger fish to fry after this match, meaning Mauricio Pochettino is probably going to rotate his squad significantly, maybe even entirely.
It's very likely that three of the most important U.S. players will not start this game. Christian Pulisic is dealing with a fitness issue that kept him out of the Australia match, while Tyler Adams and Chris Richards are both sitting on yellow card suspensions and will want to be protected. Pulisic may come on in the second half, but it's highly unlikely he starts.
Because of this, the U.S. could be significantly weakened for this game. They will want to win, of course, but momentum is not as important as player availability for the knockout stages, and Pochettino will know this.
Turkey, meanwhile, have been one of the unluckiest teams in the World Cup field in front of goal this tournament. There are reasons for this — to some extent, you make your own luck — but they have taken over 60 shots without scoring a single goal thus far. They are due for a turnaround, and it could come here, which of course would be too little too late.
