THE PERFORMER | Justine Lupe

THE SHOW | Netflix's "Nobody Wants This"

THE EPISODE | "One in a Million" (October 22, 2026)

THE PERFORMANCE | For three seasons, "Nobody Wants This" has been building toward something more between Morgan and Sasha, whose unlikely friendship gradually blossomed into an emotional affair. But after a whirlwind trip to New York culminated in the pair finally giving in to their feelings, it was Justine Lupe's turn to take center stage, delivering a beautifully vulnerable performance as Morgan confronted the possibility that she'd fallen in love with her best friend.

First, she had to come clean to her sister, Joanne, whose engagement to Sasha's brother, Noah, threatened to become collateral damage. Morgan initially found herself apologizing, chalking up her night with Sasha to getting swept up in the romance of New York. But as Joanne pressed her on why she'd risk not only their relationship, but Joanne's future with Noah, for a romance that had seemingly no chance of working out, Morgan began to recognize the depth of her feelings. Sasha knew her — not some idealized version of her, but the real Morgan, flaws and all. And she knew him, too. As Morgan struggled to articulate what made their connection so special, Lupe allowed her character's usual defenses to fall away, revealing a woman who was only just beginning to understand how deeply she'd fallen. It was a realization that softened Joanne's anger, too.

It was Joanne who ultimately encouraged Morgan to tell Sasha how she felt, setting the stage for the episode's most affecting scene. Atop a parking garage, Morgan laid all her cards on the table, acknowledging her tendency to run away whenever things got difficult. "I honestly half-a** everything I do," she confessed, her voice wavering as she admitted she was tired of repeating the same mistakes. "I don't want to half-a** you. I really want to try this." Lupe imbued every word with a sincerity that made clear just how much courage it had taken Morgan to get there.

But Sasha wasn't ready to take the same leap. Still reeling from the end of his marriage, and understandably shaken by Morgan's abrupt departure from New York, he admitted that pursuing a relationship already felt too difficult. And then came the moment that made Lupe's performance truly extraordinary. "So, like... so... no?" Morgan asked, her voice trembling with disbelief, dread, and one last flicker of hope. It was a deceptively simple line, but Lupe's delivery spoke volumes. Here was a woman who had finally summoned the courage to ask for what she wanted, only to realize she might not get it.

HONORABLE MENTION: Dominic West

Morgan on War

HBO

It's easy to root against Morgan Henderson on HBO's U.K. divorce drama "War" — he did cheat, after all — but Dominic West has found subtle ways to humanize the tech titan, and this week, he tapped into a righteous anger as Morgan stopped apologizing and stood up for himself. When Morgan's employees at Zephyr complained about his very public divorce battle, he forcefully reminded them that they wouldn't have a job without him. (He unloaded on his own lawyers, too, as well as the invasive paparazzi.) But he also took time out for a quiet dinner with his stepson Gabe, with West's rugged face softening as Morgan surveyed the damage that this battle was having on the teen boy. There are no winners in this ongoing war, clearly, but West is certainly winning our attention with his complex, empathetic performance. — Dave Nemetz
