The Boston Celtics are entering what could be one of the most fascinating offseasons in the NBA. Despite repeated public comments about wanting to remain in Boston long term, Jaylen Brown continues to find himself at the center of trade speculation. With the Celtics facing luxury-tax concerns and coming off a disappointing finish to the season, rival executives and analysts continue searching for blockbuster scenarios involving the former Finals MVP.

One of the latest ideas may be the most surprising yet. In a proposed four-team trade from Bleacher Report's Dan Favale, Boston would send Brown to the Houston Rockets and receive a package built around Saddiq Bey, Trey Murphy III, Jabari Smith Jr. and a future first-round pick. The most intriguing name in the proposal may be Bey, the former first-round pick who once erupted for 51 points in a game while playing for the Detroit Pistons.

Saddiq Bey's name stands out immediately

Murphy and Smith are viewed as premium young assets around the league, but Bey's inclusion jumps off the page because of his unique career path. Back in March of 2023, Bey delivered one of the most explosive scoring performances in recent NBA history when he poured in 51 points against the Orlando Magic. He knocked down 10 three-pointers during the performance and showcased the offensive upside that made him a coveted young forward.

Now 27 years old, Bey is attempting to re-establish himself after injuries slowed his momentum. The proposed trade would give Boston another versatile wing while also adding significantly more depth across the roster.

Why the Celtics could consider a move like this

The biggest challenge facing Boston isn't talent. It's flexibility. Brown remains one of the league's best two-way wings, but his massive contract combined with the Celtics' already expensive roster has fueled questions about whether Brad Stevens eventually explores major changes.

This trade proposal would spread Brown's salary across multiple rotation players. Murphy would give Boston one of the NBA's most efficient young scorers and shooters. Smith would add size, defensive versatility and upside in the frontcourt. Bey would provide additional wing depth and scoring punch.

The package would also include a future first-round pick. Instead of relying heavily on two supermax-caliber stars, the Celtics would gain multiple starting-caliber players and additional roster flexibility moving forward.

From Houston's perspective, the appeal is obvious. The Rockets have been linked to several superstar pursuits and are reportedly searching for another high-level scorer to pair with their current core.

Brown would immediately become one of Houston's primary offensive options alongside Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun. At 29 years old, Brown remains in his prime and would give the Rockets another proven playoff performer capable of creating offense in big moments.

The cost would be steep, including multiple players and draft picks, but Houston would be acquiring the best player in the deal.

Would Boston actually do it?

That's the biggest question. Trading Brown would be one of the most significant moves in franchise history and isn't something the Celtics appear eager to do. Still, the proposal highlights how valuable Brown remains around the league.

Any team interested in acquiring him would likely need to surrender a package filled with young talent, draft capital and proven contributors. Whether this specific deal ever gains traction is another story.

But if Boston ever decides to move Brown, a return featuring players like Murphy, Smith and even a former 51-point scorer in Bey shows just how massive the market could be.
