Things haven't quite gone to plan for the Edmonton Oilers ever since they acquired Tristan Jarry from the Pittsburgh Penguins in hopes of steadying their crease. The veteran goaltender was recently placed on injured reserve following a lower-body injury he sustained in their game against the Boston Bruins held on December 18.
The setback came just days into Jarry’s Edmonton tenure, cutting short what was supposed to be a fresh start for both sides.
Tristan Jarry was injured midway through the second period against Boston. Calvin Pickard stepped in for relief duties. With days passing by without any concrete update, head coach Kris Knoblauch finally shed some light as to when fans can expect to see the 30-year-old back between the sticks.
Addressing the media, Knoblauch said that the Oilers should be boosted by Tristan Jarry's return sometime through January.
“Mid-January … but not before that,” Knoblauch said.Jarry had made just three starts since being acquired on December 12 in a trade that sent Stuart Skinner, Brett Kulak, and a 2029 second-round pick to Pittsburgh, with forward Sam Poulin also returning to Edmonton.
Tristan Jarry's absence felt as Oilers suffer heavy defeat against Bruins
The Oilers have endured a mixed bag of results with Connor Ingram and Calvin Pickard stepping in for the absent Tristan Jarry. With six games played since, the Oilers have gone 3-3 with their heaviest defeat in that stretch coming at the hands of the Boston Bruins last night.
The Bruins, themselves, entered the game in a bit of a slump. Entering the game with six defeats in a row, Boston needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. In the end, David Pastrnak led the way with two goals and an assist to help seal a commanding 6-2 win on the road.
Ingram registered 23 saves on 29 shots faced with a save percentage of .793%. The Oilers play again on Saturday against the Nashville Predators and will hope to turn their recent run of form around with home ice advantage.
