Trent Williams trade rumor is good news for 49ers, bad news for Cowboys, Packers, Chiefs

The San Francisco 49ers and offensive tackle Trent Williams have struggled to get a new contract done, but it sounds like the team still has no plans to move on from the future Hall of Famer.

During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, ESPN's Adam Schefter said the 49ers aren't shopping Williams on the trade market, and though things could change in the future, Williams being in another uniform is unrealistic right now.

"They [The 49ers] aren't shopping him [Williams], and he's not expected to be traded," Schefter said. "Could something materialize? Sure. But that doesn't seem realistic."

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that the 49ers are now open to trading Williams, but Schefter has disputed his claim.

Williams has been thrown into trade rumors over the last few weeks due to stalled contract talks with the 49ers, but trading the franchise left tackle never made sense for San Francisco, even if negotiations aren't going well.

The 49ers not actively including Williams in trade talks isn't the news the Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, and Kansas City Chiefs wanted to hear.

Dallas and Kansas City could use upgrades at left tackle, as Tyler Smith is a solid starter for Dallas, but left tackle isn't his natural position. As for the Chiefs, Josh Simmons didn't have an inspiring rookie year.

Green Bay has a glaring need at left tackle with Rasheed Walker on the free agency market. Williams would be an electric addition by general manager Brian Gutekunst, but he may have to look at other options to address the position.

There's still a chance Williams gets traded, but the likelihood isn't high at this point, which stinks for the Cowboys, Packers, and Chiefs.
