Travis Bazzana is on his way.
The only question is: How soon will the former No. 1 overall pick arrive with the Cleveland Guardians?
It could decide how their 2026 season plays out, because the "biggest unknown" on their team is their middle infield production, writes MLB.com's Tim Stebbins.
Bazzana will play second base when he reaches the major leagues, but he's not there yet. He'll start the season at Triple-A Columbus.
That leaves Gabriel Arias and Brayan Rocchio up the middle for Cleveland, two players who had decent prospect shine but have never really developed into quality MLB hitters.
At some point, Bazzana might come knocking.
"They're running it back with shortstop Gabriel Arias and second baseman Brayan Rocchio to start the season, and while the two were a stellar defensive combination in 2025, they logged a .637 and a .630 OPS, respectively," Stebbins wrote in a new article on Wednesday. "The Guardians are hoping for players such as those two taking a step forward at the plate in ‘26. But they also have second baseman Travis Bazzana (MLB Pipeline's No. 20 overall prospect) waiting in the wings in Triple-A, vying to make an impact in the Majors."

The Guardians won't make Bazzana wait too long once he's ready. They aren't a big-market franchise, and they have to count on the players who blossom in the organization to do their jobs once they reach the major leagues.
Bazzana was the first player ever chosen with the No. 1 overall spot by the Cleveland franchise, and likely sooner rather than later, he'll make his MLB debut.
In the meantime, the Guardians will hope for production from Arias and Rocchio, because without it, it'll be tough for Cleveland to score runs.
