Trade idea sees Patriots land 2-time Pro Bowler with 5 straight 1,000-yard seasons

The New England Patriots have high hopes in their first year with Mike Vrabel as head coach. The team got Drake Maye some new weapons, but could still add a superstar.

Terry McLaurin was not present at the start of the Washington Commanders' mandatory minicamp. The two-time Pro Bowler is looking for a new contract, and the two sides are far apart on a deal, according to CBS Sports' Brad Crawford. Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox suggested the Patriots could trade for McLaurin if the Commanders listen to offers.

"Should the Commanders start openly listening to offers, the two-time Pro Bowler will fly up our trade board. Until then, he should still have the attention of receiver-needy teams such as the New England Patriots and the Steelers," wrote Knox. "New England has a promising second-year quarterback in Drake Maye who could use a reliable pass-catcher like McLaurin."

The Patriots signed Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins in the offseason. They also drafted Kyle Williams, but McLaurin would be an elite No. 1 option for the Patriots.

He has put together five consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns. In fact, his only season below 1,000 yards was his rookie year, when he had 919 receiving yards. In his first season with Jayden Daniels, he had 1,096 yards and a career high 13 touchdowns. He would be an elite pass catcher for Maye in year two.

With Diggs behind McLaurin, the Patriots' offense could be extremely explosive. McLaurin signed a three-year, $68 million deal in 2022. He is now in the final year of that deal, and wants a new contract before he steps on the field. The Patriots have the money to give him that. Meanwhile, the Commanders need to be smart as they seemingly have a lucrative quarterback contract to give out soon.
