Tottenham vs. Southampton lineups, predicted starting 11, confirmed team news, injuries: Postecoglou welcomes doomed Saints

4 hours ago 1

Bottom club Southampton's visit to Tottenham might come at a very handy time for under-fire boss Ange Postecoglou.

Relations between Postecoglou and the Spurs fanbase deteriorated further during Thursday's 1-0 derby defeat at Chelsea.

That result left them languishing in 14th position and without a win in four Premier League matches, something that must surely change against bottom club Southampton.

Ivan Juric's doomed side were on the verge of a rare win against Crystal Palace last time out before Matheus Franca equalised in stoppage time. Their relegation could be confirmed this weekend.

Postecoglou had a positive update on Micky van de Ven after the influential yet injury-prone centre-back pulled up towards the end of the Chelsea game.

"Micky cramped up, obviously he hadn't played 90 minutes for a while," said Postecoglou, who is expected to rotate with the Europa League quarterfinal against Eintracht Frankfurt on the horizon. "The positive thing is that he felt really good apart from the cramping up. It was a tough game defensively, we had to work hard."

Spurs suffered no new injury problems in the match and Richarlison could come into contention following his calf injury. Kevin Danso and Dejan Kulusevski remain out, alongside long-term absentee Radu Dragusin.

Tottenham predicted lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Vicario (GK) — Porro, Romero, Gray, Udogie — Sarr, Bissouma, Maddison — Johnson, Solanke, Tel

Injured: Van de Ven (cramp, doubt), Richarlison (calf, doubt), Kulusevski (foot), Danso (hamstring), Dragusin (ACL)
Suspended: None

In-form Southampton striker Paul Onuachu netted for a second consecutive Premier League game when he opened the scoring against Crystal Palace, but is doubtful after sustaining a knock to his ankle against the Eagles.

By contrast, Ryan Manning and Lesley Ugochukwu are ready to go again after being forced off last time out.

Will Smallbone is back in training following a groin injury, although fellow midfielder Flynn Downes will begin a two-game suspension after collecting his 10th booking of the season.

Southampton predicted lineup (3-4-1-2, right to left): Ramsdale (GK) — Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Bella-Kotchap — Sugawara, Aribo, Ugochukwu, Walker-Peters — Fernandes — Archer, Dibling
