A pair of extra-inning games highlighted the six-game slate of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association’s state softball championship games over the weekend.
In the Class 3A title game, Pine Grove Area needed 13 innings to outlast Bald Eagle Area, 4-3. Then in the 6A championship game, Central Dauphin outlasted Nazareth in eight innings, 3-2, with a walk-off hit.

Union Area defeated Northeast Bradford, 12-2, to win the Class 1A title, while Neshannock won the 2A crown with an 8-3 win against South Williamsport. Valley View captured the 4A title with a 6-0 win against Kennard-Dale, and in the 5A championship, Penn-Trafford downed Greencastle Antrim, 2-0.
Here are several of the top standouts who led their respective teams to PIAA softball titles:
Top performers from 2025 PIAA softball championship games
Olivia Benedict, Union Area: A junior, Benedict hit a home run and drove in a pair of runs in the 1A title game to power the Scotties to the win.
Irelyn Fisher, Union Area: Fisher, a sophomore, went 2-for-4 with a home run, a triple, five RBIs and two runs scored.
Olivia Williams, Union Area: A junior, Williams went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and two runs scored.
Addy Frye, Neshannock: The senior homered to help the Lancers secure the 2A championship. She was also the winning pitcher, allowing one earned run on six hits over seven complete innings, striking out 14.
Gabby Quinn, Neshannock: Another senior, Quinn doubled and drove in four runs.
Brenna Frengel, Neshannock: A freshman, Frengel went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored.
Jamie Dinger, Pine Grove: The sophomore had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs for the Cardinals in their 13-inning triumph for the 3A championship, including a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 13th. She also pitched all 13 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out 10.
Tailyn Bohr, Pine Grove: A junior, Bohr went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Cardinals.
Cailee Leffler, Pine Grove: Leffler, a junior, tripled and scored a run.
Taylor Cawley, Valley View: Cawley threw a two-hit shutout and struck out 13 batters to help the Cougars secure the 4A title.
Ella Swingle, Valley View: Swingle was 3-for-4, including a two-run triple during a three-run first inning.
Abbi Call, Valley View: Call went 2-for-4 with a double and picked up three RBIs.
Allyson Paulone, Penn-Trafford: Paulone tossed a three-hit shutout, throwing 70 total pitches - 50 going for strikes - in the Warriors’ 5A title victory. She also struck out one.
Liz Welsh, Penn-Trafford: Welsh broke a scoreless game by hitting an RBI double in the top of the seventh.
Ella Mains, Penn-Trafford: Mains also hit an RBI double in the seventh, providing insurance in the Warriors’ title win.
Brynn Barkley, Central Dauphin: Down 2-1 with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Barkley hit a two-RBI walk-off single to lift the Rams to the 6A title.
Autumn Andreoli, Central Dauphin: Andreoli went 2-for-2 with a double and also pitched the first seven-plus innings, allowing one earned run on seven hits and striking out five.
Gabby Shirk, Central Dauphin: Shirk had an RBI single for the Rams. She also had a diving catch in the top of the eighth inning.
