George Clooney revealed how he ditched the black hair he sported for Good Night, and Good Luck and attended the 2025 Tony Awards with his iconic look during an exclusive interview with E! News.

George Clooney is saying goodnight to his moody black ‘do.
Nearly three months after the actor dyed his famed salt-and-pepper locks for his role as Edward R. Murrow in Good Night, and Good Luck, he arrived at the 2025 Tony Awards June 8 with a return to his iconic look.
"I had to cut it all out with a weed whacker to get it all," George teased to E! News' Keltie Knight in an exclusive interview on the red carpet at Radio City Music Hall. "That black hair dye, I had to cut it out. You can’t color that."
As the actor celebrated his Best Actor in a Play nomination at the biggest night in Broadway, he turned heads with his classic short hairstyle walking the red carpet. For the evening at Radio City Musical Hall, he opted for a classic black tuxedo, which complemented wife Amal Clooney’s stunning beaded white gown. (See all the stars here.)
Although the Ocean’s Eleven alum kept the eyebrow-raising hair color for his latest project, he was ready to rid himself of the look as soon as he and the cast took their final bows.
“We do a matinee, and then by the time we go to the Tonys that night, it'll be gone,” he explained on Late Night with Seth Meyers June 3. “I may have a shaved head.”
Meanwhile, Amal—with whom he shares 7-year-old twins Alexander and Ella—has made it clear that she isn’t a fan of the look either.
"It's not my favorite look, and my wife, she thinks it's funny," George quipped on CBS Mornings in April. “Honestly, nothing makes you look older than being 63 and dyeing your hair."

But for the 64-year-old, who made his return to the stage after nearly 40 years, getting to bring the Tony-nominated play to life was worth every bottle of hair dye. In fact, he and Grant Heslov—with whom he adapted their 2005 film for Broadway—decided to record the production live on CNN June 7.
“I’ve had this really wonderful experience being on Broadway,” George told The New York Times in May. “I think it’s important for a lot of people to be able to see what it’s like to come to Broadway, see a Broadway play, in cities all across the country and all across the world, because it’s pretty exciting.”
