AEW President Tony Khan made a huge announcement regarding Jon Moxley. The Death Riders' leader had multiple setbacks in 2025, but he ended it on a high note. After a string of defeats, he managed to win the Continental Classic tournament and perhaps the Continental Championship at Worlds End. He even had his first defence of the title.

On tonight's New Year's Smash edition of Dynamite, the One True King defeated Don Callis Family's Josh Alexander in a great match. The Continental Champion limped throughout the bout but still managed to retain the title. Moments after the victory, the Hurt Syndicate's MVP and Shelton Benjamin stared down at the fatigued champion.

Recently, Tony Khan took to X and confirmed that Shelton Benjamin and Jon Moxley will collide on the upcoming edition of Dynamite in a Continental Eliminator contest. This will be the duo's first singles match.

"Wednesday Night #AEWDynamite, 8/7c, TBS + HBO Max, NEXT WEDNESDAY, 1/7, AEW Continental Title Eliminator @JonMoxley vs @SheltyB803 After Shelton confronted Mox tonight, they will fight 1-on-1 in a Continental Eliminator: Moxley vs Benjamin for the first time ever, NEXT WEDNESDAY!" he wrote.

Analyst claims Jon Moxley might put an end to Death Riders

Since 2024, Jon Moxley and his soldiers have been recklessly attacking AEW's weak links. At Worlds End, fans witnessed the One True King celebrate his title win with the fans and his faction. Many believe he might already be a babyface.

While speaking on Notsam Wrestling, wrestling expert Sam Roberts speculated that if the Death Riders went too far with their beliefs, Jon Moxley would be the one to stop them.

"You've got to wonder if the Death Riders feel the same way. When you start a group like that, a cult, and you, as the leader, go 'okay, our work here is done,' these Death Riders are far too invested in what you've taught them ever to say their work is done. Well, now maybe you have to look around and realise that they are going to turn on you. This whole time, we were thinking someone had to be the one to stop Mox and the Death Riders, but what if Mox is the one?" said Roberts.

It will be interesting to see if the former AEW World Champion defeats Shelton next week.
