AEW President Tony Khan talked about WWE star Cody Rhodes' recent statement, where he mentioned being disrespected in the Jacksonville-based promotion.
The American Nightmare left AEW in 2022 and rejoined World Wrestling Entertainment. The former EVP of the Jacksonville-based promotion is now the Undisputed WWE Champion and the face of the company. A few months ago, Cody shed light on his All Elite Wrestling departure. He claimed that getting disrespected by a global sports entertainment juggernaut was still fathomable, but that in the promotion that he helped establish wasn't acceptable.
While speaking on Q101, Tony Khan was asked to address Cody Rhodes' statement. Instead of taking this claim personally, the AEW President noted that while he doesn't agree with everything Rhodes says, he is happy that The American Nightmare says a lot of good things about his company.
“You know, he does a lot of interviews, and I think when you have to say so many words so often — because he works so hard, he works such a big schedule — to his credit, I bet he does hundreds of interviews a year. And I’m not sure I agree with that, but I also would give him the benefit of the doubt that, you know, I’ve heard him say a lot of positive things, too," Khan said. Veteran speculates why Cody Rhodes felt disrespected in AEW
There are multiple speculations about why The American Nightmare left the Jacksonville-based promotion.
While speaking on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge's The Wrestling Time Machine, veteran wrestling journalist Bill Apter claimed that Cody Rhodes wasn't being credited enough for his contribution.
"He was one of the people that started that company, and little by little, according to him, he felt like he wasn't being credited with what was going on. I don't think they put him in programmes that he may have wanted to be in," Apter said.It will be interesting to see if Cody Rhodes has any response to the AEW President's recent comments.
