Since going undrafted in this year’s NFL Draft and getting the opportunity to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Shilo Sanders is making the most of his NFL chance and impressing both teammates and head coach Todd Bowles.
“Like the rest of the safeties, he’s very intelligent, he’s very loud. You can hear him (on the field), making calls and everything, so he has a good grasp of things Day 1. There was about three or four of them that did. He was one of them, but you have to make plays in pads. That’s what it comes down to — knowing what to do and then doing it consistently and constantly getting better every day," Bowles said per The Associated Press.
That’s big praise coming from your head coach.
But who wouldn’t also be happy with the way Shilo is coming into minicamp so far, with comments like this:
“Man, look at where we’re at,” Sanders said with a big smile. “Look at the whole coaching staff. It’s a really supportive coaching staff. Everybody wants to see everybody do good. Everybody on the team, we all want to see each other win. It’s a great environment to thrive in.”
Even Sanders' teammates have been impressed with him.
“He’s very smart,” rookie cornerback Jacob Parrish said. “He helped me a lot with the adjustments. I’m excited to work with him.”
While others claim that Shilo is just going to be looking to make the 53-man roster, you have to take a look at what the Buccaneers currently have at safety. They still have Antonie Winfield Jr at free safety, and Jordan Whitehead isn't on the team anymore at the strong safety position – so that spot actually could be up for grabs if Shilo is already making good impressions.
