Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels has breakout performance against Mavericks

The Minnesota Timberwolves picked up a huge 115-114 road win over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. In a rare occasion, Jaden McDaniels was the star for the Wolves.

McDaniels scored a career-high 27 points on 55% shooting, grabbed eight rebounds, four steals, and three blocks. In the past few games, he has provided a much-needed spark for Minnesota. They've been needing another player other than star Anthony Edwards to step up offensively.

In fact, in the past seven games McDaniels is averaging nearly 15 points, seven rebounds, almost two steals, and almost two blocks. More than likely, he'll never be a three-point shooter. But the way coach Chris Finch has been incorporating him into the offense as of late by attacking in transition and setting up plays for him in half-court has been working.

A famous quote from Edwards nearly two years ago has probably been ringing around the Wolves fanbase's ears all week.

"They got KD, but we got Jaden McDaniels," Edwards said after the Phoenix Suns acquired Kevin Durant.

With performances like Wednesday, McDaniels may be exactly what the doctor ordered in Minnesota. With trade rumors circulating around forward Julius Randle in pursuit to acquire some offensive firepower, they've found what has been a temporary solution that they're hoping is a future solution as well.

In addition to his scoring surge, he has been an all-around playmaker for the Wolves. He's widely known for his high-energy defensive ability, and aggressiveness on the boards. As Minnesota continues to fight the rest of the Western Conference to climb the standings, if he can maintain this level of play, it'll make their playoff chase that much easier.

Although they beat a shorthanded Mavs team, it was a huge confident boost for both McDaniels and Minnesota as they're headed home for two games after being on the road four of the last six games.
