There’s nothing worse than finding something icky in your food.
Normally, you tend to see it pretty early on — think, finding a knife in your wrap, or a worm in your Easter bunny.
However, Naomi Brosnan wasn’t so lucky, taking to social media to warn others of her disgusting find.
“I actually feel violently ill”
Aussie Naomi Brosnan has taken to TikTok this week, sharing a horrifying find in her Coles brand lime juice.
In the video, captioned “Coles, you have some explaining to do,” Brosnan shows off the opaque lime juice bottle, never having thought there would be anything but the product inside.
“This, we just finished, and I shook it, and I could hear something in it,” she said.
“I cut it open… I actually feel violently ill.”
Brosnan then shows a mysterious, red-brown glob found at the bottom of the bottle.
“Someone needs to be able to tell me what that is, because… oh my god,” she said.
“They said it was only 99.9% lime juice…”
Some commenters were able to laugh about her find.
“Well, they said it was only 99.9% lime juice,” said one person.
“That looks like my endometriosis,” said another.
“That’s its placenta,” another joked.
“That’s a mucus plug. Congrats, baby is on the way!” another commenter said.
“I almost died when I saw it!”
But others were far more concerned — and many were in the same boat.
“This happened to me 2 nights ago, horrific got to the end of the bottle never using lime juice ever!!!!!!!!” said one commenter.
“Omg no way I just opened ours and it’s literally the same and the juice is actually brown too,” another said.
“I had the same thing happen to mine. I almost died when I saw it,” said a third.
Change is coming!
Ultimately, no one was able to conclude what the glob really was, with some saying it was a scoby, and others some kind of vinegar or biofilm.
However, Coles assured any customer with an item they’re not 100% happy with can return it to their nearest store.
They’re also currently working to change their lemon and lime juice bottles to see-through bottles — unrelated to this case.
“At Coles, we take pride in providing our customers with great quality and value every day. If a product doesn’t meet our customers’ expectations, we encourage them to bring it back into the store so we can provide a refund or replacement,” the spokesperson told Kidspot.
“We have transitioned the packaging of our Coles Lemon Juice 250mL and 500mL from opaque bottles to transparent bottles, making them kerbside recyclable. “At Coles, we are committed to reducing unnecessary and problematic plastic in our packaging, with more initiatives to follow, including the transition of Coles Lime Juice 250mL to transparent bottles that are kerbside recyclable in the coming weeks.”
