Tigers trade proposal lands recently traded White Sox starter

The MLB trade deadline is a chance for the Detroit Tigers to cement themselves as top contenders in the American League. With a leg up on the rest of the AL Central, the Tigers have their sights set on the World Series.

One of the areas where the Tigers could improve is by adding another starting pitcher. With the season-ending injury to Jackson Jobe and the lingering issues for Reese Olson and Alex Cobb, the Tigers will look for more help in the rotation.

A trade proposal that would work for the Tigers would be acquiring new Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Aaron Civale. Matt Postins of Sports Illustrated made the connection, linking the new White Sox starter to the Tigers in a trade deadline deal.

The White Sox, despite just acquiring Civale, are looking to move the starter. For Civale, he's been traded multiple times over the past couple of seasons. He was initially moved from the Cleveland Guardians to the Tampa Bay Rays for a top prospect in 2023. In 2024, he was shipped off to the Milwaukee Brewers before being traded to the White Sox in 2025.

With the White Sox intending to send him off one more time, the Tigers should be involved in his market. While the 30-year-old veteran is likely to have a market, it isn't expected to be strong. With other starters with much more upside on the market, the Tigers could acquire the righty for a fair price.

Civale in 2025 has a 4.67 ERA in six starts between the White Sox and the Brewers. In his MLB career, Civale has a 4.06 ERA and 600 career strikeouts. The veteran right-hander would be a nice addition to the Tigers' rotation, and he likely wouldn't cost a fortune either.
