Tigers snag 6-foot-6 pitcher from Dodgers in latest roster move

The Detroit Tigers are hoping to add to their bullpen depth, and to their height.

On Saturday, the Tigers added a 6-foot-6 pitcher to their roster from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Grant Holman had been designated for assignment by the Dodgers (and thus placed on waivers). The Tigers claimed him.

The Tigers today claimed RHP Grant Holman off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Holman has been optioned to the FCL. To make room on the 40-man roster, INF Trey Sweeney has been transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Holman is 25 years old and was originally a sixth-round pick by the Oakland Athletics in the 2021 MLB Draft out of Cal.

He first made it to the majors with the A's in 2024 and had a 4.02 ERA in 18 games.

His ERA with the Athletics in 2025 was 5.09 in 22 games.

For his MLB career, Holman has struck out 7.7 batters per nine innings but walked 4.2 batters per nine innings.

Holman didn't get into a game with the Dodgers this season before he was DFA'd. 

They had just picked him up at the end of Spring Training from the Arizona Diamondbacks, but now Holman leaves the NL West for the AL Central, where he'll hope to actually stay put for at least a little while.
