With the trade deadline a little over a month away, more names continue to be floated around the trade market.
In an article from mlb.com, the Detroit Tigers were named as a potential landing spot if the Colorado Rockies were to trade third baseman Ryan McMahon alongside the Brewers, Twins and Yankees.
McMahon was originally thought to be a key piece in a Rockies turnaround, but a Colorado turnaround seems like it may have to wait for next season or sometime down the road. McMahon had a rough April, but has played well since the start of May.
Since May 7, McMahon has hit seven home runs and driven in 16 runs with a .855 OPS in the last 37 games. His performance of late has put him in the top 10 percent of the league in average exit velocity, hard-hit percentage and walk percentage
McMahon’s contract includes signing on for $12 million for this season and $16 million for the next two seasons.
The Tigers could use some depth at third base. Matt Vierling has had a shoulder injury that has kept him out since spring training and is not scheduled to return until early July.
Zach McKinstry has been holding down the fort at third base all season, batting .273 with three homers and 19 RBIs this season. McKinstry’s one year contract with Detroit is up after this year, so landing McMahon could give the Tigers depth at third base if McKinstry decides to leave.
