Tigers interested in 'fortifying' lineup at trade deadline

5 hours ago 1

At the MLB trade deadline, the Detroit Tigers are looking to make some moves. Most expect the Tigers to be aggressive, with a reliever as one of the top needs. But reliever isn't the only need on the roster.

According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Tigers are also interested in adding a hitter to the lineup. "Detroit also has interest in another bat to fortify the lineup." Bowden wrote.

Adding offense to the Tigers' lineup isn't easy, as there are plenty of strong players throughout the lineup. But, one area which could use a boost is at third base.

If the Tigers could add a player like Arizona Diamondbacks Eugenio Suarez or Colorado Rockies Ryan McMahon, then the Tigers' offense would take a huge step forward. Of course, of the two, Suarez would be the dream pickup.

He has 35 home runs on the year, and has been slugging the ball incredibly well since coming out of the All-Star break. In just three games, Suarez has hit four home runs, with two games in a row of two home runs.

Sitting atop the baseball world coming out of the All-Star break, the Tigers are eyeing up potential additions to the roster. While there aren't any major injuries that are forcing the Tigers to land a specific player, there are some areas to consider outside of third base.

The outfield could be an area where the Tigers add a player. While Kerry Carpenter is expected back at some point later this season, and Wenceel Perez and Parker Meadows have had their moments, the Tigers could still use another outfielder.

It doesn't have to be someone like top trade target Jarren Duran, but it could be a platoon bat who could add quality depth to the roster. And with the recent injury to Javier Baez, even though it's not serious, the need for more offense is apparent.

Rounding out the roster with more offensive firepower would be ideal, as the Tigers need to contend with the top teams in baseball both offensively and in the pitching staff.

Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize give the Tigers a chance when they're on the mound, but Detroit could use more offense to shore up the roster for a deep postseason run.

But, regardless of what the team decides to address at the trade deadline, whether it's a player like Suarez or another slugger who can round out the lineup, the Tigers are interested in adding another offensive player to the roster.
