Tigers eye Parker Meadows return following injury update

There has been a rising level of concern for Detroit Tigers centerfielder Parker Meadows after the 25-year-old found his way back on the injured list for the second time this season.

Meadows sustained a right quad strain on July 27, and the Tigers placed him on the 10-day IL. This was after he already missed the team's first 60 games of the season while dealing with a musculocutaneous nerve injury in his arm that prevented him from throwing.

The centerfielder hasn't been able to stay on the field all season, resulting in just 38 games played in 2025. Tigers outfielder Matt Vierling has filled in at the centerfield position since Meadows has been absent.

Parker Meadows has been progressing towards a return from the right quad strain, and CBS Sports mentioned that the injured centerfielder has been cleared to run.

Detroit hasn't provided a specific return date for Meadows, but he will be assigned to a rehab assignment. ESPN's Alden Gonzalez believes he will return sometime before the end of August.

In Meadows' injury-riddled 2025 season, he hasn't been able to find any momentum at the plate. In 125 at-bats, he has a .200 batting average, .270 on-base percentage, .296 slugging percentage, and a .566 OPS while hitting two home runs and nine RBI.

The 25-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, has shown splashes of potential. In Detroit's seven-game postseason run last October, Meadows was able to get a hit in each game for the Tigers.

The Tigers are beginning to see their lead in the AL Central slowly shrink, with the Cleveland Guardians closing the gap to six games heading into the weekend. Detroit will host the Los Angeles Angels in a three-game series starting on Friday.
