The Detroit Tigers could be looking for a new second baseman during this offseason.

Gleyber Torres is a free agent after spending the past two seasons with the Tigers, hitting .260/.364/.363 with eight home runs and a 105 OPS+ in 96 games in 2026.

Torres has become a great on-base guy the last few years, but he offers little to no value with his legs on the basepaths.

Detroit could have Zach McKinstry and Hao-Yu Lee split time at second base, or they could target another former New York Yankees middle infielder.

"The lineup is less of a concern, but Jazz Chisholm Jr. to Detroit wouldn't be a colossal surprise.

"At any rate, the last time the Yankees let a multiple-time All-Star second baseman walk in free agency without even extending him a qualifying offer, Gleyber Torres ended up with the Tigers. Perhaps they bring in Chisholm to replace him," Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller wrote.

Chisholm doesn't get on base nearly enough to match Torres' .364 OBP, but he hit 19 homers and stole a career-high 41 bases this past season.

The Tigers stole 58 bases across 162 games, just 17 more than Chisholm swiped by himself.

Adding athleticism to the lineup could help the Tigers get back to the top of the AL Central. Obviously, Chisholm's been a topic of discussion for some negative reasons, including playing the field with a lollipop in his mouth.

You'd like to think the Tigers would make it clear that those kinds of things are not allowed, especially under manager A.J. Hinch.

They could use a few additions to the starting rotation too, but signing Chisholm would be a solid start to the offseason for Detroit.
