Tigers' big trade deadline question on Tarik Skubal has an easy answer

1 hour ago 2

There might not be a team around Major League Baseball with more outside eyes on them than the Detroit Tigers right now.

With their poor record, there is a decent chance that Tarik Skubal and some other rental options might be on the trade block for Detroit this year. If so, the Tigers could be the team to call this summer for a club looking to increase its World Series odds.

But, for the Tigers, this Skubal trade deadline question is a massive one that's going to be very difficult to answer, right? ESPN's Bradford Doolittle believes differently, as he highlighted why this question has an easy answer.

Tigers' big Tarik Skubal trade question has easy answer

"Either these players are part of a team trying to play deep into October, or they need to be moved for future value," Doolittle writes. "Winning makes that decision easy, and the Tigers have picked up the pace since the beginning of June."

Skubal, Casey Mize, Gleyber Torres, and others have been floating in trade rumors for the Tigers this season amid their incredibly disappointing start to the year.

But, even at 28-39, things have gone very well for the Tigers lately. In June, they're 6-1, a great way to kick-start a very important month for Detroit.

This big trade question for Detroit can be answered with a winning streak, which would effectively take them out of the trade market and put them back in the Wild Card hunt.

The Tigers might be 8.0 games out of the AL Central lead, but they're only 4.5 games out of a Wild Card spot despite their poor record this season.

With a lot of questions lingering around this team for their trade deadline plans, all they have to do is win more games, and all of those rumors will go away.

No team is facing a bigger question this summer than the Tigers. But this big question has a simple answer, and it's simply whether they can win games.

If Detroit starts winning, Skubal, Mize, Torres, and anyone else will not be on the trade block. But if the Tigers start losing more games, then a deadline sale might be in the cards for this team.

Even though this question is a massive one for the Tigers, the way it gets answered is simply through wins and losses. And based on how June has gone thus far, the Tigers are trending towards keeping Skubal and pursuing a Wild Card spot.
