Thunder start season 8–0, set new franchise record after win over Clippers

The Oklahoma City Thunder entered the 2025–26 season with the confidence that comes from winning an NBA championship. Last spring, they outlasted the Indiana Pacers in seven games to secure the franchise’s second title—and their first since 1979. This fall, they have wasted no time showing why they intend to contend again.

With Tuesday night’s victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, the Thunder improved to 8–0, setting a new franchise record for the best start to a season.

Reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander once again powered the Thunder. He scored 30 points in just 29 minutes, including 18 in a decisive third quarter that helped put the game out of reach. He also tallied 12 assists, continuing the elite two-way play that earned him the league’s top individual honor last season. The performance extended his streak of 20-plus point games to 80, the third-longest such stretch in NBA history.

The Thunder also benefited from a strong outing by Isaiah Joe, who provided 22 points and three rebounds off the bench. Joe shot 6-for-10 from beyond the arc, helping stretch the floor while Oklahoma City’s offense surged. Chet Holmgren, returning from a three-game absence caused by a back injury, played 30 minutes and contributed 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and three blocks.

All of this has come without Jalen Williams, Oklahoma City’s No. 2 scorer, who continues to recover from a wrist injury.

The Thunder will look to stay perfect Wednesday night when they face the Portland Trail Blazers on the second night of a back-to-back.
